Chinese Taipei Open Day 3

I would like to congratulate our shuttlers for a job well done!

In Day 3, we have shuttlers in 4 events [MS, WS, MD, MXD], and in Men's Singles, Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles, they prevailed to enter the quarter-finals tomorrow.

In the Men's Singles, Kendrick Lee managed to defeat the seeded Eric Pang in straight sets [21-14, 21-16] to advance to the quarter-finals. Great job there by Kendrick! However, a tough opponent awaits him tomorrow, Chen Hong of China.

In Men's Doubles, the brothers once again shocked us with their 3 set win over China's Sun Junjie/Xu Chen. The score is 21-19, 19-21, 21-13. This is the 2nd consecutive time Hendry Saputra/Hendra Wijaya entered the quarter-finals of a 5 star event. They face 2nd seeds Chan Chong Ming/Koo Kian Keat of Malaysia tomorrow.

In the Mixed doubles, Hendry Saputra/Li Yujia had quite a scare before winning the match. Their opponents, Sun Junjie/Tian Qing, took the first game 21-17. But our Singaporean duo managed a great fight back to take the remaining two sets 21-14, 21-10 to qualify for the quarter finals. They will play World Champions Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir tomorrow. So that means Hendry will play in 2 quarter-finals.

For the Women's Singles, though Li Li lost to World No.2 Xie Xingfang, she did a great job in forcing Xie to a rubber set. Taking the first set 21-9, Li Li went on to the 2nd set, however, Xie proves to strong for her and took the 2nd game 21-13. In the rubber set, it was a much more thrilling experience. But eventually, Xie prevailed, taking the match 9-21, 21-13, 21-17. A much commendable effort by Li Li. She should be proud of herself.

Overall, i would say this is one of the most awarding tournaments in ages. I believe this is the first time our shuttlers managed to get into the quarter-finals of 3 events of a 5* tournament. So once again, congratulations!

Cheers,
Pearlyn.
