Chinese Taipei Open Quarter-Finals

3 cheers and 3 cheers and 3 cheers for our shuttlers: Hip Hip Hooray!

Today had been an exciting day with 3 matches involving our shuttlers.

And the good news is: Kendrick Lee enters the semi-finals of a 5* event for the first time!

After losing the first set 16-21 to 3/4 seeded Chen Hong, Kendrick bounces back to win the 2nd set 21-18. Anyone could have seen the fatique in Chen Hong's eyes, and with that advantage, Kendrick proves that he will be someone to watch by leading 17-7 at one point and taking the rubber game 21-15.

This is the first time in months since any Singaporean shuttler made it to the semi finals of a respected tournament, the last time being Li Li in the semi-finals of the 2005 Malaysia Open.

He meets Malaysia's 2nd seeded Lee Chong Wei in the semi-finals. We wish him the best in tomorrow's game, and hopefully he will put up yet another brave fight!

For Li Yujia/Hendry Saputra in the Mixed Doubles event, no miracle happened, after all, their opponents are the reigning World Champions. They lost in 2 straight sets 21-16, 21-18, but however, it was a brave run for the duo to the quarter-finals.
Currently ranked only 39th in the world, due to a new world ranking system, the duo must do really well in upcoming tournaments to ensure their place in the top 15 again.

Brothers Hendry/Hendra Wijaya first shocked everyone with their amazing run to the quarter-finals in Singapore. This time in Taiwan, their amazing run to the quarter-finals again have also ended bitterly, but this time to the hands of World No.2 Malaysian pairing of Chan Chong Ming/Koo Kian Keat.
The brothers lost in 2 straight sets 21-18, 21-11. It was a commendable effort through the quarter-finals though.

We thank the shuttlers for putting their best foot forward, and we thank them for doing so well in this tournament!

Lastly, the match between Kendrick Lee and Lee Chong Wei will be a crucial one, so do pray hard for our very own shuttler Kendrick tomorrow!

Cheers,
Pearlyn.
